12 Alabama Inmates Used Peanut Butter To Trick Worker In Their Escape From Jail

A dozen Alabama inmates cooked up a plot to hoodwink a new employee at the Walker County Jail, using peanut butter to trick the staffer into opening an alternate door over the weekend, Walker County Sheriff James Underwood said at a news conference Monday afternoon.

Underwood said a recent hire at the jail was in the control room keeping count of inmates when they asked to have a door opened. But the inmates had used peanut butter from jailhouse sandwiches to trick the staffer.

Jupiter, Florida, authorities charged MLB manager Tony LaRussa with drunk driving in March 2007. The official report states that the St. Louis Cardinals' manager was slumped over the wheel of a Ford SUV in an intersection around midnight. After failing field sobriety tests, the 62-year-old LaRussa was transported to the Palm Beach County Jail, where Breathalyzer tests showed his blood alcohol content to be .093 - above Florida's .08 legal limit. LaRussa posted $500 bond and was released.
