Stolen Boat Hits Dam; 4 Towed To Safety, Arrested

Four people who are accused of stealing a motorless 18-foot flat-bottom boat in Clinton had plans to drift to the mouth of the Mississippi River before the boat struck a dam Monday night, Scott County Sheriff Dennis Conard said.

Christopher Allen Rannow, 25, of Clinton, Anna T. Nelson, 32, of Clinton, and Sherrie Lynn Holloway, 52 of Hanover, Ill., each are charged with one count of third-degree theft and one count of harassment of a public official. A German man was stopped by police after he was clocked doing 40mph down a high street in a tuned-up electric wheelchair.

Rip Torn

Texan actor Rip Torn was arrested for drunk driving in the city suburb of North Salem, New York in December 2006 for crashing his car into a tractor-trailer. State police said the 75-year-old actor was visibly intoxicated and refused a Breathalyzer test. He was later quoted as saying "I love New York" after being acquitted in a juried trial. Torn was arrested on the same charge two years earlier in New York City for crashing into a taxi.
