Civil rights icon Rosa Parks was arrested in February 1956 in Montgomery, Alabama for failing to give up her seat on the bus to a white person, actions that sparked the multi-month Montgomery bus boycotts. Parks was found guilty of civil disobedience and violating a city ordinance and fined ten dollars, plus an additional four dollars in court costs.
